Website design pricing

Know the cost before anything starts.

Website design pricing depends on what your site has to do. This guide shows what moves the cost up or down, then sets out four packages.

Cost guide

How much does a website cost?

A website costs what its scope needs, and scope varies more than most people expect. A few pages for a local firm and a shop with thousands of products are both called a website, yet one can take many times the work of the other. That is why honest website design pricing starts with questions, not a number.

Four questions settle most of the price:

  1. How many pages does it need, and how many different kinds of page?
  2. Will it sell online or take payments?
  3. Are the words and photographs ready, or still to be gathered?
  4. Does it need anything built specially, such as a calculator, a product finder or live updates?

Answer those in a few lines and we can quote. Every quote is fixed and itemised, so you can see where the money goes.

What moves the price

What affects website design pricing?

These six factors move website design pricing up or down more than anything else. Most projects sit somewhere between the two columns.

FactorCosts lessCosts more
PagesA handful of core pagesDozens of pages, or one for every town or service
Selling onlineNo shopA shop with many products, payments and stock

For scale: EB Fuels needed 20 town pages, and Beacon Lighting carries 2,503 products.

Packages

Four packages for the work most often ordered together

Each package groups work that tends to be bought at the same time. Whichever you start from, your project gets its own written quote, and items can be added or removed before you agree to it.

Running costs

Which costs carry on after launch?

Design is a one-off cost, but every website has a few running costs that belong in an honest budget. Know them before you compare website design pricing from different studios, because some quotes include them and others leave them out.

  • Domain name. Renewed every year or every few years with a registrar. The .uk domains are run by Nominet, and South Africa’s .za names are overseen by ZADNA.
  • Hosting. The server space that keeps the site online, usually billed monthly or yearly.
  • Email. Mailboxes on your own domain, often charged per person.
  • Paid tools. Payment gateways, booking systems or map services, where the site relies on them.

Your domain is registered in your name, so renewals come to you directly. Ask, and we will list the running costs that apply to your site next to the quote.

How we quote

What a fixed quote from us means

We would rather explain a price than bury it in small print.

That is how website design pricing should work.

  • Fixed

    The agreed price holds

Unless you ask for extra work, the figure in the quote does not move.

  • Free

    Quotes cost nothing

Ask for one, or for two versions of the same project if you are weighing up options. There is no obligation.

  • Local

    Pounds, dollars or rand

You see the price in the currency you pay in, so it compares directly with other quotes you hold.

  • Itemised

    Every line shown

Each part of the work is listed on its own, so you can drop or add a piece before you sign off.

Questions

Questions about website design pricing

Question not here? Send it to us and we will answer it directly.

Ask a question

How do I get a price for my website?

Use the project form or email hello@redfoxbranding.com with a short description of the site: its purpose, the rough number of pages and whether it will sell online. We read it, ask anything we need to know and send a fixed quote in writing. If a site already exists, send the link, because it helps us price accurately.

Is the quote really fixed?

Yes, for the work it describes. If you later ask for something the quote did not cover, such as extra pages or a new feature, we price that addition separately, and it is your call whether to add it. Nothing is added to the bill without your agreement, so your website design pricing stays predictable from the first email to launch day.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. Asking for a quote costs nothing beyond the few minutes it takes to describe the job, and you can walk away afterwards. We would rather you compared properly than rushed. If the figure does not suit your budget, say so, and we will show you which parts could be phased or left out.

Why does website design pricing vary so much between designers?

Because the quotes describe different things. One price might cover a template with your logo dropped in, while another covers a site designed from scratch, written for search and checked on real phones. Before comparing totals, compare what each quote includes, who owns the result and what happens when something needs changing after launch.

What makes an online shop cost more than an ordinary website?

Every product needs its own page, photographs, price and stock level, and the shop needs payments, delivery rules and order emails that work. Filters and search matter more as the range grows. Beacon Lighting, with 2,503 products, shows how much sits behind a large shop. A small range costs far less to set up.

Are the domain and hosting included in website design pricing?

They are running costs rather than design costs, so they are shown separately. Your domain is registered in your name and renewed with the registrar, and hosting is billed by whoever provides it. Ask, and we will set out what each will cost next to your quote, so the first year’s total is clear before you commit.

Can I change what is in a package?

Yes. The packages group work that tends to be ordered together, but they are not set menus. Drop the stationery from Business launch if you already have some you like, or add a presentation template to the Tender-ready bundle. The quote is rewritten to match, line by line, before you agree to anything.

Can I get my quote in pounds, dollars or rand?

Yes. Quotes are written in GBP, USD or ZAR, whichever suits you. Because the price is set in your own currency, exchange rates do not change what you owe once you have agreed it. Organisations with offices in more than one country can choose the currency their accounts team prefers.

How much does a company profile cost?

It depends mainly on the page count and on who writes it. A short profile laid out from text you supply costs far less than a long one we write for you. Troda’s profile ran to 20 pages and Mrala’s to 18, which gives a sense of a full one. Send your page count, or a best guess, and we will price your company profile.

What is the most affordable way to get a professional website?

Start small and add to it. A few well-made pages, with your words and photographs ready before we begin, cost much less than a large site planned all at once. Pages, a shop or new features can follow later and will match, because the design is already set. That approach keeps website design pricing within reach of a new business.

Still comparing website design pricing?

Put our quote beside the others and check what each one includes, who owns the files and what happens after launch. Our questions page covers what people usually ask. If any line in our quote is unclear, ask, and we will explain it plainly.
