What makes it work

What makes a good logo?

A good logo is simple enough to sketch from memory and different enough from others in your sector to be yours. It also has to survive rough treatment, so every design we present has been checked:

  • shrunk to a 16-pixel browser icon
  • in black only, and reversed out in white
  • stitched on a shirt, where hairlines and tight gaps fill in
  • over a busy photograph

Logo types

Which kind of logo suits you?

It depends on your name and where the logo appears most.

Files

Files you receive

  • Vector mastersSVG, EPS and PDF files that scale to any size without losing quality.
  • Print and screen versionsCMYK and Pantone files for print, and RGB PNGs with transparent backgrounds for screens.
  • Lock-upsHorizontal, stacked and symbol-only arrangements, in colour, black and white.
  • IconsA favicon, an app icon and a profile picture that still works when cropped to a circle.

Process

How we design your logo

  1. Brief

Where will it be seen most: a van, an app icon or an embroidered polo? That shapes everything.

  2. Explore

We sketch widely, then develop the strongest ideas into a shortlist to compare.

  3. Refine

Spacing, letter shapes and line weights are adjusted until the mark balances at every size.

  4. Finalise

Lettering is converted to outlines, so no fonts are needed, and every file is exported and checked.

Questions

Questions about logo design

Question not here? Send it to us and we will answer it directly.

Ask a question

Why do printers keep asking for a vector file?

Because vectors are drawn with points and curves rather than pixels, so they stay crisp at any size. A PNG saved from a website looks fine on screen but blurs when a sign maker enlarges it. SVG, EPS and PDF are vector formats, and you receive all three.

Can you redraw our old logo from a blurry file?

Yes. We rebuild it as a clean vector, correcting the wobbly curves and uneven spacing that creep in from years of copying. It can stay exactly as it was or be tidied while keeping it recognisable. Either way, you end up with proper master files.

Should we register our logo as a trade mark?

It’s worth considering once the logo is final and you plan to use it for years. A logo can be registered as a figurative mark, separately from your name. We design original marks but can’t give legal clearance, so speak to a trade mark attorney about searches.

How is a logo priced?

Mainly the number of concepts and rounds of changes, both stated in your quote. A symbol alongside the lettering adds time, while redrawing an existing logo takes less work than designing a new one. The quote arrives in pounds, dollars or rand.

Planning more than a logo?

If a website, a profile or uniforms will follow, a full brand identity adds the palette, type and rules that keep them consistent. Your logo then becomes one part of a system rather than all of it.
