Website audit

Find out what’s really wrong.

A website audit tells you, in plain English, why a site is slow, invisible on Google or losing enquiries, and what to fix first.

What it is

What does a website audit cover?

An audit is a structured inspection of your site. We test it as a visitor on a phone, as Google’s crawler and as a customer using a screen reader would meet it, then write up what we found in the order it matters.

It suits an organisation whose site is underperforming with no clear reason, one about to spend on ads or SEO, and one deciding between a repair and a rebuild.

Scope

Which parts of the site are audited?

  • Speed

    Speed

How fast each page type loads and settles on a phone over mobile data, measured against Google’s Core Web Vitals, and what is slowing it.

  • Search

    Search visibility

Which pages Google has indexed, what they rank for, and the technical faults holding the rest back.

  • Errors

    Errors and security

Broken links, missing pages, forms that fail, expired certificates, outdated software and mixed content.

  • People

    Accessibility and content

Contrast, keyboard use and alt text to the WCAG standard, plus whether the pages actually persuade a reader to act.

Search

What does the SEO audit look at?

The SEO audit checks whether the right pages are in Google and the wrong ones are out, then works through every page’s title and description, headings, duplicate content, redirects, structured data, sitemap and robots file. We read Google Search Console with you, because it shows what Google actually did with the site rather than what it should have done.

The output is a map, not a lecture: this page targets this term, these two pages compete with each other, this term has no page at all. Where you serve a local trade, the Google Business Profile is checked as well.

Rivals

What is in the competitor review?

CheckWhat we look atWhy it matters
Competitor analysisWho ranks for your terms, their pages, speed and offersShows the gap and what is realistic
Keyword overlapTerms you share and the ones they own alonePicks the targets worth chasing
BacklinksWho links to them and not to youWhere mentions can be earned

Deliverables

What you receive from a website audit

  • A ranked reportEvery finding scored by impact and effort, in plain English, with screenshots, as a PDF you can forward.
  • A fix list for a developerThe page address, what is wrong and what good looks like, so any developer can quote from it.
  • A keyword and page mapThe terms worth targeting, the page that should hold each one and the pages that need writing.
  • Baseline measurementsSpeed scores, indexed pages and rankings as they stand, so later work can be shown to have worked.

Questions

Questions about website audits

Question not here? Send it to us and we will answer it directly.

Ask a question

How do we book a website audit?

Send your web address through the project form or email hello@redfoxbranding.com with a line on what worries you: slow pages, few enquiries, a drop in Google traffic. We reply with a fixed quote in GBP, USD or ZAR and a short list of what we’d like access to. The audit itself is done from the outside, the way a visitor and Google see the site.

Will you fix the problems you find?

If you want us to. The report is yours and works with any developer. If you’d like us to do the work, our website repair service quotes each fix from the report as a fixed price, so you see what each one costs before deciding. Some fixes you can do yourselves; bring us the rest.

What is the difference between a website audit and an SEO audit?

An SEO audit covers only how search engines read and rank the site. A website audit includes that and also speed, errors, security, accessibility, design and whether the pages persuade anyone. If search is the only concern, ask for the SEO audit alone, which costs less. If enquiries are down and you’re not sure why, the full audit finds causes an SEO audit would miss.

Can you audit an online shop or a large site?

Yes. A shop the size of Beacon Lighting, which we built with 2,503 products, is audited by template rather than page by page: the product page, the category page and the checkout. A full crawl then lists every broken link, redirect chain and duplicate page, because those are where large sites quietly lose rankings.

Already know what is broken?

Then skip the audit. Our website repair service fixes a known fault for a fixed price, from a hacked site to a form that stopped sending. And if the audit shows the site has had its day, we say so plainly and quote a new website instead, with the audit’s findings as its brief.
